Building widgets with custom timeline actions (and a little Palin humor along the way)
by chris on Nov.24, 2008, under Widget Sightings
There’s a cool new feature in the KickApps Widget Studio that allows you to define certain things to happen according to a video player’s timeline. In the example below, there are little “instructional balloons” at 11 seconds, 40, 1:16, 1:52, 1:59, 2:09, 2:30 (interactive, booyeah!), 2:46, 2:54, and 3:09.
Be forewarned: Mike voted for Obama this year.
To create this effect in the KickApps Widget Studio, select the Advanced Video Player component from the stage and click on the “Actions” panel on the Component Pallet. There are a couple new options under the Events label:
- Media Start (make something happen when the video starts)
- Media End (make something happen when the video ends)
- Media Percent Complete (make something happen when the video hits the 10% mark, for instance)
- Media Time Update (make something happen when the video hits the 15 second mark, for instance)
What are you doing with your timeline?
